AKASHIC RECORDS EXPLAINED: What They Are and Why You Consult Them

The Akashic Records can be described as a non-physical library containing a record of each soul’s experiences across lifetimes. In this post, I share what they are, how I first became acquainted with them, and how their guidance can help you find clarity, healing, and renewed purpose.

MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

I first entered the archives of the Akashic Records in 1998 under the tutelage of Grandmother River. I’d never heard of the Akashic Records before this, so I was excited to be introduced to another esoteric realm.

But my excitement soon gave way to a sense of reverence. I was greeted by four very solemn beings, called Keepers, who ushered me into a powerfully peaceful and sacred environment. It was a very humbling experience.

I learned how to address the Keepers and how to acquire their assistance to gain knowledge of the journey of my soul through time. And I learned how to respectfully request information from another person’s records – always with their permission.

It was only after becoming familiar with the Keepers of the Records and the atmosphere of the Akasha that I wanted to know more about the history and concepts of this place.

THE BASICS

The universal concept of the Akashic Records is that of a non-physical library holding the energetic imprints of all past and present events in the world. They include every thought, word and deed of every individual’s life, including past lifetimes and possible futures.

The word Akasha is Sanskrit in origin and refers to “the fundamental essence from which all matter arises.” In English, the Bible calls it the Book of Life. Every religion and spiritual tradition has its own wording, but the concept of this non-physical library didn’t become widely known in America in the late 1800s and early 1900s, mostly due to the extraordinary readings by two famous psychics: Madame Helena Blavatsky and Edgar Cayce, the "sleeping prophet."

Since my initiation into the Akashic archives, nearly three decades ago, I have become familiar with several “floors” or themes of information. The group of Keepers I first met were more solemn than those I work with now, who are uplifting and supportive. They will always offer guidance that is personal to you and applies directly to your question or situation.

Today’s resurgence of interest in Akashic Records readings is a response to the uncertainty of our changing – and challenging – times. We’re looking for a new direction, a stronger sense of purpose. We want a new perspective. We need guidance to find our way back to our inner power and the wisdom that brings peace to our hearts and minds.

All of that is available in the Records.  Readings shed light on the nature of your struggles and recurring patterns, and offer insight on how to heal their causes.

The Akashic Records hold the full story of your soul’s journey — past, present, and possible futures. If you feel stuck in the same old unhealthy patterns, or if you’re simply looking for more clarity and direction in your life or life’s purpose, the Records are an infinite resource for personal empowerment and transformation.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN A READING

In a reading, we begin by relaxing and centering the body. I recite a prayer to purify our space and gain entrance into the Akashic Library. Before I look at your paper, I ask the Keepers what they would like to tell you. You are welcome at any time to ask questions to get a deeper understanding.

When that feels complete, I’ll present your questions about relationships, health, career, soul purpose, etc., to the Keepers. Often we find that the items have already been addressed. The Keepers offer powerful and uplifting guidance for your self-development, healing, and personal evolution. Their answers are always deeply personal and relevant. And they always support your highest good. To end, I say a short prayer of thanks.

The Keepers of the Records are beings of powerful Presence, great understanding, and compassion. Sometimes the amount of love you feel is enough to bring tears to your eyes. Sometimes the amount of guidance offered is too much to process all at once in the moment. For that reason, it’s a good idea to bring a journal or recorder to note the things that stand out to you.

PROCESSING YOUR MESSAGES AND INSIGHTS

It’s quite common to request a follow-up reading a week or 10 days later to explore a specific message or theme that came up in your first session. It could be that so much information was given that you couldn’t take it all in, and would like further elucidation. Maybe some of your notes don’t seem to make sense, and you’d like to clarify. Or you may not even have heard something that was said until you listened back to your recording.

Taking a few days to process, and then revisiting the Records, can be the wisest way to resolve any lingering questions, emotional resistance, or new insights that have emerged. Every visit to the Records is a unique conversation offering wisdom, encouragement and support — one that continues to unfold long after the reading itself.

Whether you seek healing, direction, or simply a deeper connection with your soul, the Akashic Records can illuminate your next steps with remarkable clarity. The guidance that comes through is always tailored to your highest good — reminding you that you have the wisdom and strength within you to create the life your spirit longs for.
